President's Corner

DON'T READ THIS MESSAGE…

…Unless you want to find out all the exciting things going on in Lutherville. Now that I've caught your attention, I'd like to introduce myself as the recently elected President of the Community Association. You may see me jogging along Francke Avenue or being pulled around the neighborhood by my two dogs on one of our regular excursions. If so, feel free to stop and let me know any thoughts you have about our community. First, I would like to thank Marcia Hettinger for her tireless work as President over the past four years. Marcia is graciously serving as the Vice President and we've got a great line up of Board Members who are listed on our website that I urge you to visit to keep up with our developments.

Our Board has been busy during these dog days of summer tackling community issues and planning new and exciting activities. We are focused on encouraging the participation of all corners of the community by being more socially oriented. At the same time we want to make sure that the powers that be hear our voices about controversial issues. Our bimonthly General Meetings will be spread around at different locations in the community and will include a social hour. Watch for the flier about our annual Labor Day Weekend Yard Sale that's always a big hit. We are planning block parities and other social activities and will try to invigorate or reinvent some of our traditions such as the Halloween and Easter events. We are enlisting “Block Captains” so that we can learn about and greet new neighbors and look out for seniors and others in need during emergencies. We're very excited by the community listserv we are developing so that news and discussion are only an email click away.

The Association is committed to supporting the Lutherville Volunteer Fire Department's capital campaign to renovate and expand their facility. All of the proceeds from our fall 2008 House Tour will be dedicated to this great institution. We're also participating in the upcoming (September 29 th ) LVFD Bull Roast at the Timonium Fair Grounds.

There's never a shortage of community issues to address. We've formed a Charles Street Project Subcommittee to ensure community input into this major bridge and traffic undertaking. The Traffic Committee has submitted a number of neighborhood streets to the County for traffic calming consideration and is addressing all of the traffic issues identified by residents. Our Public Facilities Committee is pressing the County to address Roland Run flooding and water quality concerns.

I could go on and on, but I'll be merciful. My main point is to encourage your participation in our great community. Again, please check out our website to see if there is a committee or issue that strikes your fancy. You should have received our registration mailing that includes a survey to help us determine how best to serve you and invites you to sign up for our listserv. I hope you join with the LCA and look forward to seeing you around the neighborhood and at meetings and events.
